You only have to look at some of the responses in this forum to see how pig-ignorant and gratuitously offensive people can be from the safe distance of their computer. On reflection I must apologise for my slur on pigs as they are nowhere near as ignorant as a couple of people whose empty-headed and venal remarks litter this forum.
It is not just the outright abuse... but the thoughtlessness and total lack of basic manners and courtesy. The irony is that we have never been able to communicate so quickly and easily.. yet so many use that privilege to spew venom at others.
Reading most of the debate on Libya is like being in a pub at coming up for closing time and a lone lowbrow mouth breather is trying to put the worlds to rights by shouting at others. The beer is in and the wit is out. But at least he has an excuse.
The only real question which needs answering in my view is whether people have become more spiteful, rude and aggressive of lateā¦ or were they always like that but we were mercifully not exposed to their unthinking rantings because this means for them to sound off had not been invented?
I am a staunch proponent of freedom of speech... but the free speech we have all been granted by the Internet has come at a high price.
