| I went to work this morning...a mountain of paperwork waiting for me. Within an hour I realised the futility of my task - nothing would get done with the constant interruptions I was experiencing: phone calls, staff coming in to my office to discuss 'urgent' issues, kids sent to me for minor misdemeanours etc. What a drag. When at work...I do not discourage people from communicating with me. I like to have an 'open' office and make myself accessible, but sometimes I just need to be able to get on with my own stuff.
So...I resolved to work from home for the rest of the day. The moment I came home, I made a coffee and bang started to surf the net. I logged onto this forum and read anything recently posted. The paperwork remains in my briefcase.
When I was a teenager, I remember laughing at people who were slaves to their work. I told myself then that I would never jump onto the wheel like a mouse - industrially running around and getting nowhere. So wtf happened?
Are our youthful resolutions just pipe dreams? Is this what maturity means? Is life really so predictable? Is there no way out?
When I was a kid...minutes seemed like hours, days seemed like weeks and weeks seemed like years. Summer vacations seemed to last for a lifetime. Now it all flies past so quickly -- and when you look back, it doesn't seem half as full as it once did.
The paperwork is still in my briefcase -- but I am just about ready for another coffee!

| Space, everyone is a procrastinator on some level. Some of us are terrible offenders, spending hours doing useless things like browsing facebook or blogs lol .... or walking up to see what is in the fridge multiple times a day, all in an effort to avoid the work we know we should be doing. | |

| I am allergic to non-attractive people. It wouldn't slow time down...but I may swell up and die : ( | |

| I enjoyed your post. I imagine it sums up the work days of many of us, as well as our reflections on our youth. So squeeze what pleasure you can out of this "mature life" and await dementia, when neither the details of our present nor past will haunt our existence. Just the malfunctioning machinery of an aging brain! | |
