My Favourite book?
It has to be “To kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.
Set in the 1930’s in America it describes very well the prejudices in the south, including the disgraceful trial of Tom Robinson – a black man accused of rape. Tom Robinson was clearly innocent, but the jury found him guilty based on the attitudes at the time.
To save me writing the whole plot out, I have a link for you to look at if you are interested.
http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/mocking/summary.htmlThe book is interesting on many levels and with many lessons to be learned. For instance the person thought to be the weird and creepy neighbour (Boo Radley) actually ends up as the hero in the end.
Definitely worth a read.
