Why people chat and play onlines games ....whats the motivation?

In August of 2005, the government of the People's Republic of China, where more than 20 million people play online games, introduced an online gaming restriction limiting playing time to 3 hours, after which the player would be expelled from whichever game they were playing.The Chinese government operates several clinics to treat those addicted to online games, chatting and web surfing.So whats that mean : people need clinics cause they are totaly obssessed with chat and games !!! Phew i often ask my self what the heck i am doing dialy in shg .wgc and etc ...to play games instead to do something in real life ..SAD isnt it ?to chat with strangers behind their PC , isolating themselves from, or from other forms of, social contact and focusing almost entirely on in-game achievements rather than broader life events .Personally i dont know why i come in online site ...prolly too bored .

started 10 years ago to visite the gamesite ,,,,,,cause i love tp play cards and i had no one around me who played so good that i could get fun ..
Now then.....after these 10 years i has found some friends who i love to play in this net and still i know now.......Iam the best german on earth with hearts....

Hey maggzz, good topic well done sweetie.

I came online about 5-6 years ago a friend introduced me to the zone. I never had broadband
at home only had dial up. Then when I found I was enjoying it I switched to Broadband.

I come online as it's my way of socialising, I don't really go out, I've met a lot of really great and fun
people which I could honestly say that I wouldn't if I went to pubs etc. To talk to people ALL
over the world and build somekind of friendship is just amazing. Also learned a lot too, learned
how to play spades, hearts and canasta, learn different cultures how people live all over the world
you wouldn't get that in a Pub would you?

I work full time and also a full time house wife, online is more often than not relaxing. Life is stressful
as many know, so to be able to come online play and chat with friends eases all tensions. So now I think
it's time to say Thank you all for being such good friends

Ok ,i am ..kinda agree with meet and sylvia BUT ..i know and is pretty sure people who use so much internet( to chat to play )something is wrong with them :Some are very lonely ,some have so free time and dont know what to do with it ,some are just obssessed ,some need the attention they dont get in their Real lifes,some are bored and etc etc .
Now about talking with friends ..can u plz meet explain me what excatly means internet friends ?we talk with somebody behind the PC .we have fun we joke and etc ..OK BUt do we know them ?Do they know US ?
How long u need to know somebody trough internet ?I agree that is more easy to talk with somebody who u dont know BUt is this rigth or not ?

Well maggie in answer to your question...

I have met several people in real life whom I got to know from the internet and hopefully, yes, they do know me as I know them. Admittedly, some are acquaintances that I have 'met' over the years. But when one has talked to many of them for a long time not only in the lobby and in MSN, but also on skype I feel that I do know them fairly well.

Now I turn this on you maggie...

I sense from what you are saying you don't know anyone and all is a fun thing for you. Do you not feel you know anyone on the internet where you can talk freely about private things without repercussions?

hmm, why am I here she asks...in the spring of 2002 I was at work, Nursing for the elderly down at my local hospital. A job I loved dearly. All of a sudden one evening, I was helping an aide with a resident. As we went to lift we both heard a snap noise & I stood frozen, knowing it was my back that made that noise. From that night on I was out of work, sitting home doing nothing, cause I couldn't . My sister(who I love dearly) went out & bought me a computer. I am not a pc nerd, had no idea what I was doing. But, I learned enough to get around the "net" world. I landed in the zone, from there I have landed many places, met many people on here, even in person & some that I talk on the phone with daily. Someday I will be getting a settlement & have plans on meeting people from other countries. They already know that, we talk about it all the time. So. Yes Mags, you can meet wonderful friends online. I started out in 2002 just cause of boredom & to keep myself sane from being not able to do the normal life I once had. Now, 7 years later, I come online to meet up with those friends that have touched my heart one way or another during these years.

Well meetys in answer of your question :yeah i do find here everthing for fun !thats why i come here ..Dont take anything personal and for serious .Thats internet not real life ...when i swich off the PC all is gone .I talk for some privates things ..but i choice them too (sometimes is easier to talk with stranger ) but all with limits .I know everybody behind his /her PC has real life and It has nothing with this in here .Well i speak for myself .U said u know people .....the fact we speak often doesnt mean we know people !all are simple words ..I can say what i want and u have to take it ..U cant know if its true or not .Thats internet so different then the real life .I come here to blah blah ....avoid to speak for something serious cause is internet (except some posts in this site )which now i find for mistake to post .I am bored and i just dont care ...i like to figth to be friendly ..just to enjoy my time in here !! Doesnt take anything for serious in here -NO the insults NO the compliments just nothing ...But thats my simple opinion as u know already i have kinda different points of views from yours !

hmmmmm how did i get here. well about 8 yrs ago i was babysitting for a friend and her son who wud have been 5/6 at the time ( bright child) was playing in a backgammon room on the zone.i sat and watched him play . he cudnt chat at thesame time he hadnt learnt to multitask bless him so i chatted for him . he soon made me a name yes a 5/6 yr old made my name for me and thats how soundlessnicky came about. he set me up an email account and showed me how to use the nice basic msn lol. from that day on i messed around in backgammon but got bored with that and moved over to checkers ( red and black room)i never used to chat on main i used to sit and watch and think omgggggggggggggggg untill oneday someone said something to me and that started the ball rolling. i have met some great friends from the zone and when it closed moved over to wgc withthe rest ov the clang .

as for maggies remark about been lonley and no life well maggie thats not true at all. some ppl use the chat rooms as a way to vent, relax or basically to have some kind ov decent adult chat.

I stumbled across zone about 9 years ago now.. well maybe 8. I spent maybe an hour trying to think of a nic - i finally settled on my favourite playstation game at the time "spyro" well jesus there were about 9000 verisons of "spyro" an hour later i finally got into a room.. were i met Kofi, a friend i still have to this day, we chat not everyday but often enough on msn.. not far behind him came minxess, a friend i love dearly and still chat on a regular basis also. I have several very dear friends i met in the first days of zone and still consider friends, even tho they, and i are not online as often as we once were i would say we have very "real" friendships and they don't seem any less real for never having met face to face. In fact without these people i could cheerfully have gone insane at several stages of my life. They were always there to listen when alot of so called "real life" friends weren't. I've met several online friends over the years, one of whom i am still very good friends with, and another who i might not see for years but when we do, we pick up where we left off like no time at all has past.

I love the net.. i also hate the net, but i would never be without it.
